In 2005, TEMPO Networks, LLC was a newly-formed Caribbean television channel dedicated to promoting the music and culture of the wider Caribbean—including the U.S. Virgin Islands. Without hesitation the Virgin Islands-based Innovative Cable TV, a subsidiary of Innovative Communication Corporation (ICC), became the first cable operator in the Caribbean to add TEMPO to its channel roster. This allowed thousands of television viewers in the Virgin Islands to be a part of this new exciting phenomenon.
Since that initial relationship was struck, TEMPO and Innovative have continued to expand their partnership.
The TEMPO Network’s anniversary event, TEMPO Turns 4, scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Randall “Doc” James Racetrack on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, is sponsored by the Innovative family of companies, including Telephone, Cable TV, Internet, Long Distance, Wireless and Business Systems.
Peter Hayden, Vice President, Marketing for Innovative, said, “Innovative is proud to once again be a major sponsor in bringing back this year's Tempo Turns 4 anniversary event to St Croix. Innovative and Tempo have a long standing partnership in helping to promote our Caribbean culture, music and entertainment. We are excited for all of our St Croix, St. Thomas and St. John residents to be able to “Feel de Tempo” at the Tempo Turns 4 event on November 14th!”
Hayden says the two companies are also planning some exciting new ways to bring Tempo music and videos to Innovative customers through various Innovative services.
Innovative Cable TV was the original Presenting Sponsor of the TEMPO launch event at Frederiksted Pier in October 2005, and provided sponsorship of subsequent TEMPO anniversary events up through TEMPO Turns 3. “We knew early on, people were excited about possibility of seeing other Caribbean people on the channel, but also seeing themselves, so it was a natural fit to be involved with TEMPO,” said Innovative Cable TV President Jennifer-Matarangas King. Matarangas-King said from the first year it was very clear that TEMPO anniversary events were good for the St. Croix economy, by both stimulating local tourism trade and providing Caribbean-wide exposure for Virgin Islands businesses on the TEMPO networks.
Frederick A. Morton, Jr. Founder, Chairman & CEO of TEMPO Network said the partnership between TEMPO and ICC has been extremely beneficial to TEMPO. He said he looks forward to continued strong relations between the two companies.
Other sponsors for TEMPO Turns 4 include Presenting Sponsor, The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism, WTJX-Channel 12, Tropical Shipping USA LLC, Sea Flights, SeaBorne Airlines, Budget Rent-A-Car, Virgin Islands Lottery, and VI Sea Trans.
Artists for TEMPO Turns 4 include legendary dancehall singer Shabba Ranks, Puerto Rican salsa band, N’KLABE, reggae singers Tarrus Riley and Gramps Morgan, Trinidad Soca Monarch Iwer George, Jamaican dancehall diva Ce’Cile and Trinidad born entertainer, Ziggy Rankin. Local St. Croix artists are on the lineup as well, including Road March Champions UMB Soldiers, reggae artist Mada Nile, and 2008 VI Idol winner Cherise King. DJ Poppy Pops of Isle 95 radio will spin the hits during the night..
TEMPO Turns 4 kicks off at 4 p.m. with a pre-show televised live on WTJX featuring: Hart Attak Band, Sabor Latino, Excalibur, Harry Mo, Hugo Pantes, Ma Fyah, Empress Miangro, Bolo Ice, Black Star Band, Fyah Emblem, DJ Saigon, and DJ Cool and Deadly.
