Arrow got an early start, first performing at age 10 in a concert at the Montserrat Secondary School. He began singing calypso in 1967, and was quick to take the Junior Monarch title. Just two years later he took up singing professionally, and became first runner up and then the winner of the Montserrat Calypso King competition. The award was a family tradition, first going to his brothers Justin and Lorenzo, and then four times to Arrow.
His innovative blend of R&B, Zouk and salsa brought the music of Montserrat to new audiences. In 1982, "Hot Hot Hot" was a pan-Caribbean hit, and went on to become one of the biggest hits of all time in any genre.
True to his Montserrat roots, after the disastrous Soufriere Hills volcanic eruption, he organized a calypso festival in 1996 to raise funds.
The Soca King of the World will be mourned by all lovers of Caribbean music and culture.
