The most consistent collaborator of super-producer Dave Kelly for 10 years, Cham is no newcomer to dancehall. His extreme selectiveness in releasing music, however, makes it easy to forget that he’s on the scene—until he blows the competition away with a bombshell 45 like “Ghetto Story.” Bypassing the fast beats and singalong hooks that have run dancehall lately, Cham rewrote the rules for 2006 with the sheer power of his voice and gripping narrative. The unstoppable forward motion of Kelly’s riddims doesn’t hurt either of course, making Cham’s forthcoming LP one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
