After seeing icons such as Bob Marley, Beres Hamond and Peter Tosh perform at annual Reggae Sunsplash shows in his community he knew that he was meant to be a Reggae star and made this his sole mission in life.
Cure began his reggae career using the name “Little Melody” and quickly became the talk of Jamaica. At the age of fifteen, he moved to Kingston where he met Capelton, Sizzla and Jah Mason and was given the name Jah Cure. Under the guidance of Beres Hammond, Jah Cure learned the ins and outs of the business, however in 1998 his career was put on hold when he was arrested and charged with four crimes. Cure denied all of these charges and to this day maintains his innocence. Non the less, he was sentenced to fifteen years in prison. Despite the set back, Cure did not let this get in the way of fulfilling his dream of becoming a reggae star.
While in jail, Jah Cure recorded and released several records including “Jamaica” and “Longing For” which both topped the charts as #1 singles. His first album “Free Jah Cure” was released in 2001, one year after he began his incarceration, and was highly acclaimed. After his release, Cure stated that his only remaining goal in life was to spread love and to promote peace and healing, universally through his music.
